  • Tom Trovas Guitar solo T-Shaw

  • The Tom Trovas Band performs "Sweet Little Angel" @ Salt Creek Grille

Tom Trovas has been part of the music scene for more than three decades. He has been a member/founder of various blues, jazz and funk bands in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Before moving to the East Coast from his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa, Tom was the "go-to" guitarist for many area acts. During the Woodstock era of the '60s and '70s, Trovas played with some of the most extraordinary talents of that time, such as Bugsy Maugh of The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and shared the stage with such giants as Janis Joplin and Frank Zappa. As a member of Lloyd Simms and Hotshot, an R&B band, Tom toured Canada for three years. He was a founding member of The Force on Philadelphia International Records, a band heading Billy Paul of Me and Mrs. Jones fame. By 1979, he had a recording contract with Philadelphia International Records. And while countless bands in Atlantic City of the '80s knew Tom as their lead guitarist, his proudest experience in those years came from his work with legendary saxophonist Hank Mobley. Tom Trovas has been the lead guitarist for The Buicks, the famed Philadelphia R&B band, for the past eight years. His work with them has produced many original songs and gained the recognition of blues societies throughout the Philadelphia/Baltimore region. He and the band were the winners of the Baltimore Blues Society, 2006 for "Best Blues Band". Tom and The Buicks went on to Memphis to compete in the International Blues Challenge in 2007. Born in Waterloo, Iowa, Trovas listened to music of every genre from the time he was ten years old. He began teaching himself how to play the guitar at twelve after he had inherited his uncle's guitar and a vast record collection. Trovas is not only a gifted guitar player, but a songwriter and studio artist as well. He is a published songwriter, arranger and producer with BMI. From blues to jazz to gospel to funk, Tom Trovas plays it all and with powerful brilliance.
